Negroni Week is almost up, people! So better get on it asap! There aren’t just Negroni cocktails out there but crazy variations. Here are just a few of what’s available. Happy drinking!
The Varnishdowntown will be doing Negroni Jell-O shots through Sunday at $2 a jiggly shot and 50 percent of the proceeds will go to Weingart…
Back in 2009 I wrote up my LA bucket list “100 Things To Try in LA Before You Die.” It was a Valentine to the city I’ve called my home for nearly 20 years. It for sure is a personal list made up of activities that I thought would make anyone fall deeper and deeper in love with Los Angeles. Not so much touristy things, like “Put your hands in Marilyn Monroe’s handprints at Grauman’s” but must-dos that are more about the overall experience. Like eating a Sprinkles Beverly Hills red velvet cupcake (#4) because that’s where the cupcake craze first launched in L.A. Or hitch a ride with the Goodyear blimp (#64) because it’s one of only three blimps in America and happens to make its home in LA.
But it’s been five years and it’s time to update it. Especially since the list included a lot of cocktails that are no longer available like Copa d’Oro’s Sour Kraut (sad face). So I’ve switched out expired items with 22 new ones (#78-#100), and updated some things like “an Old Fashioned by Eric Alperin at the Varnish” instead of just having the “Remember the Maine.” It HAS to be made by Eric, as he’s the one who not only runs the place but taught Ryan Gosling how to make one for Crazy Stupid Love.
Anyway, get out there and enjoy the city! And please share your own bucket list items in the comments. I’d love to see what I’m missing.
By the way, this Saturday at 6:30pm on ABC 7’s “Eye on LA” host Tina Malave (now my most favorite person in the world) helps me cross off the biggest, literally and figuratively, item off my “100 Things To Try in LA Before You Die” list! Check it out!

Booze delivered to my doorstep in under 20 minutes! Win!
As a promo for the L.A. launch of liquor delivery app Drizly, I was invited to order up some booze through the app. Funny considering I had JUST written a Los Angeles Magazine blog post about such liquor delivery appsthat are now becoming available in the city. A lot of the apps are still limited in coverage areas and inventory but when you…
Harlowe Bar’s Chris Amirault with pinkies out.
1933 Group’s newest venture Harlowe Barwill open its doors to the public tomorrow and, I gotta say, it promises to be their best bar yet. I had the chance to check out the space all cleaned up and put together for the first time earlier this week at a media preview party and it’s just plain gorgeous. 1933 Group partner and designer for the space,…
Sommelier Eric Railsback shares insider tips on where to enjoy wine in Santa Barbara when you’re short on time.
Sommelier Eric Railsback loves wine so much that even before he was of legal drinking age he was trying to stock up on Burgundy. Cut to now when he’s 29, and he’s made a name for himself not just in the wine world as a protege of Rajat Parr and one of Food & Wine‘s 2014 Sommeliers of…
Starting today I’m no longer blogging for Los Angeles Magazine’s Digest blog! Nope. Because now you’ll be able to find my drink posts on the magazine site’s brand-new booze-dedicated blog, Liquid LA!
I’ll be covering the cocktail beat while craft beer guru and fellow LA Mag blogger Randy Clemenswill cover the beer scene. Garrett Snyder, formerly of Tasting Table LA, will be overseeing us. We’ll…
You want a cigar now, right?
I’m not a smoker and yet one of my guilty pleasures is having a cigar with a bit of scotch. Something about taking that time to slow down for a small sip and a drag and ruminate over how the flavors intermingle on your tongue that just says, “Ahhh, now THIS is the life. Where the devil are my slippers?”
But since I’m still a novice, when I attended a Glenlivet scotch…
